The Menderes, is the longest river (548 km) in southwestern Turkey and the main resource for irrigation through Menderes basin. According to the myth, the Goddes Athena is believed to invent the first flute in the history by bearing holes on a bone of a deer or long straws grown in a lake formed at the source of the Menderes.
